Dubai Police Panel Discussion on The World Intellectual Property Day
Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Administrative Affairs, held a panel discussion titled “Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity,” coinciding with World Intellectual Property Day, which is recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) every April 26th.
The panel discussion was attended by Colonel Mansour Al Qarqawi, Director of the General Department of Administrative Affairs; Colonel Dr. Mohammed Al Janahi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Administrative Affairs; Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saba Al Marri, Director of Knowledge, Innovation and Development Department; and Major Khaled Al Mazroui, Head of the Innovation Laboratories Section; A number of female employees and officers from Dubai Police were also present.
Colonel Mansour Al Qarqawi highlighted the importance of the panel discussion in raising awareness about intellectual property rights, especially among women, to increase their participation and presence in this field, regardless of their specialities. The session is part of the ongoing efforts by the General Command of Dubai Police throughout the year to raise awareness among employees about the importance of preserving intellectual property rights for their innovative projects and the classified materials they work on.
The panel discussion, which was moderated by Hessa Al Sharqi, featured three main themes:
The first theme, “The Role of Women in Supporting the Intellectual Property System,” was addressed by Zahra Al Rahbi, Executive Director of Bayanat Intellectual Property Company. She emphasized the importance of women’s participation and support in the intellectual property system and the global need to empower them for greater involvement.
In the second theme, “Leading Institutions Supporting Female Inventors,” Major Dr. Rouda Hassan Al Shamsi, Head of the Medical Examination Department at the General Department of Forensics & Criminology, spoke about her speciality, which combines medicine and law. Al Shamsi discussed her innovative approach to the “Neck Autopsy,” which involves performing hidden surgical lines behind the neck, enabling her to obtain more anatomical information in a shorter period.
Major Al Shamsi also mentioned that one of the main challenges facing women today is the need for more intensive awareness and education on intellectual property rights, as well as establishing direct communication between professionals and experts in specific fields to identify challenges and develop innovative, effective solutions.
In the third theme, “Empowering Women and Their Contribution to Intellectual Property,” Senior Engineer Hessa Juma Al Sharqi, from the Wireless Systems Section at the General Department of Communications, discussed her specialization in electronic engineering. She commended Dubai Police General Command’s support for female staff in various fields, including inventors, innovators, creators, and talented individuals. Al Sharqi also mentioned that she had registered 16 intellectual works, thanks to the significant support she receives in her work environment.
