Dubai, UAE – The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to kick off tomorrow in the UAE, with 10 teams battling over an 18-day tournament. Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, captained by Fatima Sana, is slotted in Group ‘A’ alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Group ‘B’ features Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Pakistan will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on 3 October at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Their highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals India will take place on 6 October at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS). Following this, Pakistan will face defending champions Australia on 11 October, and their final group match against New Zealand is scheduled for 14 October, both at DICS.

The tournament format will see the top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals, set for 17 and 18 October, with the final to be played on 20 October at the DICS, starting at 6pm local time.

Ahead of the tournament, Pakistan played two warm-up games against Scotland and Bangladesh and held various practice sessions to acclimatize to the conditions. Captain Fatima Sana expressed her confidence in the team’s preparation, highlighting the valuable experience gained from their recent home series against South Africa.

“We have prepared well for the mega event. The series against South Africa at home before coming to the UAE helped us know our strengths and allowed our batters to show their form. The two practice games have also helped us in assessing the conditions here and now has provided us with clarity regarding the right combination of players in the tournament,” said Fatima Sana.
