IPYG Organizes Peace and Safety Program in Tanzania to Promote Youth Engagement
In April 2026 the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) organized an integrated peace and safety program in the Mwenge area of Dar es Salaam Tanzania. The program was held under the theme “Educate Peace Ensure Safety: The DPCW Article 10.”The main goal of this initiative was to promote a culture of peace while improving community safety and awareness among youth.

What is DPCW Article 10?
The Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) is a global framework that focuses on ending war and building lasting peace.Article 10 of the DPCW highlights the importance of spreading a culture of peace through education and community participation.
Plogging Activity Improves Local Environment
As part of the program IPYG organized a large-scale plogging activity at Mwenge Junction and the New Mwenge Bus Stand.
More than 300 youth volunteers and local residents joined the activity. They collected and sorted waste helping to clean the area and improve the local environment.
This activity showed how small actions can make a big difference in building a peaceful and healthy community.

Peace Education and Safety Awareness Campaign
Along with the cleanup IPYG conducted a public awareness campaign based on DPCW Article 10.
The campaign focused on:
- Promoting peace education
- Encouraging youth participation
- Building a sense of responsibility for community safety
The message “Educate Peace Ensure Safety” inspired young people to take active roles in their communities.
Practical Safety Training with Experts
The program also included hands-on safety training in collaboration with Dingonet an NGO specializing in disaster management.
Participants learned:
- How to use fire extinguishers
- Emergency response techniques
- Basic safety practices
These practical exercises helped participants gain confidence in handling real-life emergency situations.

Youth Voices and Future Plans
One participant shared:
“Taking part in both environmental cleanup and safety training helped me understand how peace can be practiced through real actions in the community.”An IPYG official stated that the organization will continue to expand such programs and work with local partners to involve more youth in peacebuilding activities.
