Draymond Green’s future with Warriors uncertain after NBA suspension

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been away from the court since last month, serving an indefinite suspension while meeting undisclosed requirements for his return.

ESPN, on Christmas, reported that Green would potentially be suspended for 11 to 13 games and would be expected to return between January 5 and 10 against New Orleans in Detroit, but coach Steve Kerr’s recent statements paint a different picture.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Kerr mentioned that communication with Green has been limited, stating: “We text. But we’ve been giving him his space, and he’s been giving us ours.”

When asked about the timeframe for Green to regain playing shape, Kerr expressed uncertainty, stating, “Not sure.”

Despite the reported timeline, Green has yet to return to the Golden State facility for team workouts.

Green was involved in multiple on-court incidents on the basketball court, the latest one being a punch to Phoenix Suns‘ Jusuf Nurkic.

He has missed 10 games in his latest suspension, in which the Warriors have gone 6-4.

At this point, there has been no indication of a possible return date, as his return is also contingent on him getting counselling and showing improvement in his actions.

Last week, Green was spotted at Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James’ 39th birthday party with many A-list celebrities including Jay-Z, Beyonce and Don Cheadle, among others, in attendance.

Green arrived at the party alongside LeBron’s star teammate, Anthony Davis, according to Fansided.

Although Green’s attendance is not surprising given his relationship with LeBron, one could argue they were enemies at the start of their face-off in the 2016 National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals, which has changed in the last number of years.
