Gaming industry shocked as Rockstar Games’ GTA 5 source code leaked
This holiday season has taken an unfortunate turn for developers and gamers worldwide as prominent gaming studios, including Insomniac and Rockstar Games, grapple with substantial data breaches.
Following the recent leak of Insomniac’s Wolverine game, Rockstar Games, renowned for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5, is the latest victim, facing significant data exposure, as reported by Sportskeeda.
In a disclosure on X (formerly Twitter), popular YouTuber SKizzle unveiled that the complete source code of GTA 5 has been publicly leaked, accompanied by data related to Bully 2 and the next GTA title, codenamed “Project Americas.”
SKizzle substantiated the revelation by sharing a screenshot of the leaked GTA 5 source code, indicating that Rockstar was working on a potential sequel to the acclaimed Bully video game.
Reports on X suggest that the source code was disseminated through a Discord server, the identity of which remains undisclosed to prevent further proliferation of the leaked data.
A fan known as “Agent” contributed to the GTA 5 source code leaks, sharing images of Rockstar Games’ RAGE engine on X. However, this post has since been removed.
The recent data leak follows a similar incident involving Insomniac Games, where a substantial amount of data, including a fully downloadable unreleased Wolverine video game, was exposed, along with details about upcoming titles.
Although the source code and footage of GTA 5 were leaked last year, they remained undisclosed until now, posing a considerable data loss for Rockstar Games and potentially impacting current and future players of the series.
Concerns have been raised among online gaming enthusiasts about potential delays for the much-anticipated GTA 6, given the sensitive nature of the leaked source code.
