SpiceJet Launches New Sharjah–India Flight Service
Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet has officially launched a new non-stop international flight service connecting Ahmedabad, India, with Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, marking a significant expansion of its Middle Eastern network and enhancing air connectivity between the two countries. The service commenced on 5 February 2026, and reflects growing travel demand between India and the UAE on both business and leisure fronts.

India Flight Service: New Sharjah–Ahmedabad Route Details
The new flight operates between Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and Sharjah International Airport in the UAE. It will run five times a week — with no services on Tuesdays and Wednesdays — using SpiceJet’s Boeing 737 aircraft.
This route makes Sharjah the airline’s second UAE destination after Dubai, underscoring SpiceJet’s commitment to expanding its international footprint.
Strategic Importance of the Service
Boost to Air Connectivity
The launch strengthens air links between India and the UAE, countries that share robust economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties. With a large Indian expatriate population residing in the Gulf region, especially from Gujarat, direct flights between Ahmedabad and Sharjah are expected to provide:
- Faster, non-stop travel for business professionals
- Convenient options for tourists
- Easier journeys for families and visiting friends
By offering daily cross-border connections, SpiceJet is filling a gap for travelers seeking alternatives to layovers and longer itineraries.
Economic and Tourism Impact
Ahmedabad, a major commercial and cultural hub in India, has long-standing trade links with the UAE. Sharjah, the third-largest emirate, is known for its cultural heritage, museums, and burgeoning tourism infrastructure. This new route is expected to further facilitate:
- Business travel and trade exchange
- Tourism growth to and from both locations
- Strengthened economic cooperation
Travel trade analysts suggest that increased frequency and direct links could result in heightened passenger traffic, benefiting airports, airlines, and ancillary sectors like hospitality and logistics.
Official Statements
In its press release, SpiceJet highlighted that this service “reflects the growing demand for travel between India and the UAE,” noting Sharjah’s significance as a key regional aviation hub. The airline stated that the Ahmedabad–Sharjah flights would complement its existing international services, aimed at improving connectivity and travel flexibility.
Meanwhile, Sharjah Airport Authority officials welcomed the new service as part of ongoing efforts to expand the airport’s global network and deliver enhanced travel options for passengers from diverse markets such as India. They emphasized the airport’s commitment to offering seamless travel experiences through investments in infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Passenger Experience and Booking
Travelers can book tickets through SpiceJet’s official website, mobile app, or authorised travel agents. Initial ticket prices for the new service vary based on demand, season, and booking time, offering competitive options for passengers.
Industry Context
The addition of the Ahmedabad–Sharjah route comes amid broader expansion in UAE-India air connectivity. The UAE, with its strong economic ties to India, continues to attract significant business and leisure travel, leading multiple international carriers to enhance their Middle Eastern networks. SpiceJet’s entry into this corridor positions it alongside major airlines serving the region.
