Abu Dhabi Introduces Mandatory Pet Registration Rule with Dh1,000 Fine

Abu Dhabi has announced a new mandatory pet registration policy for dogs and cats, aimed at strengthening animal welfare standards and improving public safety across the emirate. The regulation requires all pet owners to officially register their animals through the government’s approved digital system.

Under the new rule, pets must be properly identified, with registration details helping authorities keep track of ownership, vaccinations, and overall health records. Officials say the measure will make it easier to reunite lost pets with their owners and ensure animals receive timely medical care.

Pet owners who fail to comply with the registration requirement will face a Dh1,000 fine, a move designed to encourage responsible pet ownership and accountability. The policy also supports better monitoring of stray animals and reduces risks related to unvaccinated pets.

Authorities highlighted that the initiative forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to promote community well-being, public hygiene, and animal protection. By standardising pet registration, the emirate aims to create a safer, more organised environment for residents and their pets while reinforcing humane treatment and care standards.
