Dubai Civil Defence Debuts High-Tech Firefighting Robot

Dubai News – 14-01-2026 In a major leap forward for emergency response technology, Dubai Civil Defence has unveiled an advanced high-tech firefighting robot designed to support human firefighters in some of the most dangerous and complex fire scenarios. The new robot made its first public appearance at Intersec 2026, a leading global event focusing on security, safety, and fire protection innovations.

A New Era in Firefighting Technology

Dubai’s firefighting robot represents a significant advancement in the use of robotics for civil protection. Built to operate in hazardous environments such as high-rise buildings, industrial facilities, and warehouses, the robotic system can deliver up to 40 litres of water per second and reach flames up to 60 metres away, allowing responders to attack blazes from safer distances.

According to Lieutenant General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Civil Defence, the robot underscores the emirate’s commitment to leveraging smart technology to enhance public safety and protect firefighters from unnecessary risk.

Capability and Performance

The new robot, identified as the D2W firefighting unit, is engineered for durability and performance in extreme conditions:

  • Water and fire-resistant battery – designed to withstand high heat without failure.
  • Self-cooling system – enables continuous operation even amid intense temperatures.
  • High durability – can endure hose pressures up to 8 bar and exert a pulling force of up to 200 kg, helping stabilize fire hoses during intense fire suppression efforts.

These features help the robot maintain peak functionality while protecting the crew and equipment it supports.

Supporting Reconnaissance and Training

In addition to its firefighting prowess, Dubai Civil Defence also showcased a smaller robotic unit dubbed the “First Explorer.” This device is used primarily for reconnaissance and training — entering dangerous environments ahead of human responders to transmit live visual data, assess structural hazards, and help plan safer operations.

Strategic Importance and Broader Impact

Dubai has faced several high-rise fires in recent years, prompting an increased emphasis on faster, smarter, and safer firefighting methods. Innovations like this robot and other technologies, such as firefighting drones and remote inspection tools, strengthen emergency response efforts by reducing the time and exposure risks associated with traditional firefighting.

By integrating robotics into emergency operations, Dubai Civil Defence is not only enhancing operational efficiency but also setting new benchmarks for civil protection across the Middle East and beyond.
