The announcement marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s ambitions to become a preeminent centre for AI innovation and infrastructure.

How the Largest AI Chip With 4 Trillion Transistors Works

Co-developed by G42, the Abu Dhabi-based AI and technology holding group, in collaboration with Cerebras Systems — an industry leader in large-scale AI hardware — the new chip represents a dramatic jump in compute capacity compared to existing processors. According to G42’s Group CEO, Peng Xiao, the chip packs four trillion transistors on a single wafer, dwarfing current top-tier GPUs, which typically hold around 100 billion transistors.

Xiao explained to summit attendees that this “mega chip” offers roughly a 40-fold increase in transistor density compared to current leading chips — a development he described as crucial to accelerating next-generation AI workloads.

The Heart of AI Computing

Transistors — tiny electronic switches that form the building blocks of modern processors — determine a chip’s ability to process data. The more transistors a chip contains, the greater its theoretical computing power and efficiency for handling complex tasks such as language processing, computer vision, and other AI functions. This new design is expected to dramatically increase the speed and scale at which AI systems can be trained and deployed.

G42 plans to integrate the new chip into its expansive AI infrastructure project, including the UAE’s ambitious 5-gigawatt UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi. The facility, which is already under rapid construction, is designed to support massive AI computing capacity and global connectivity, enabling low-latency services reaching billions of people across continents.

Accelerating Global AI Adoption

Sheikh Saif highlighted the strategic importance of the UAE’s move into large-scale AI computing, noting that the nation aims to support AI services for up to 40 % of the global population. He described trust in data governance as a foundational pillar of this effort, urging international partners and users to view the UAE as a secure and reliable hub for advanced digital infrastructure.

Speakers at the summit emphasised that the chip will form the backbone of computations powering everything from generative AI and automated reasoning to data analytics across sectors including healthcare, finance, energy, and education.

The unveiling also underscores a broader strategic shift in the UAE’s economic vision — moving from a primarily energy-based economy toward one centred on technology and intellectual capital.
