Sajid Khan Unveils WASAKA, A Global Creative Venture Bridging Bollywood and the Middle East
Dubai: A new chapter in musical storytelling has been announced as Sajid Khan officially launched WASAKA, a global live-entertainment and creative initiative aimed at blending Bollywood heritage with international artistic innovation.
Unveiled during a specially convened press conference attended by media representatives, entertainment industry insiders, and prominent cultural voices, WASAKA has been positioned as a pioneering movement focused on immersive musical experiences, reimagined classics, and cross-cultural collaborations. The initiative seeks to expand the creative vision of the late Wajid Ali Khan while introducing a fresh global performance format.
Marking its debut, WASAKA announced a major musical release featuring renowned Qawwali artists Shabab Sabri and Danish Sabri, alongside Indian playback singer Salman Ali, who rose to fame through the television show Indian Idol. The collaboration merges traditional Sufi-Qawwali intensity with contemporary musical arrangements, reflecting the spiritual and emotional style that defined Wajid Ali Khan’s artistic philosophy.
According to Sajid Khan, WASAKA represents both a personal and professional milestone. He described the venture as a long-cherished dream shared with Wajid Ali Khan, aimed at creating a platform that would expand their musical sound to global audiences while preserving its emotional authenticity. He emphasised that the initiative will focus on evolving their musical legacy through innovative live concerts, modern reinterpretations of classic hits, and immersive storytelling formats.
WASAKA’s live-performance vision includes re-arranged versions of iconic Sajid–Wajid compositions tailored for global audiences, refreshed interpretations of classic tracks, and large-scale concerts designed to enhance audience engagement. The venture also aims to spotlight emerging musical talent, particularly from the Middle East, encouraging creative exchange across cultural boundaries.
Speaking about the collaboration, Shabab Sabri noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to emotional authenticity in music, aligning the Sabri family’s Qawwali tradition with Sajid Khan’s contemporary musical vision. Danish Sabri added that the project represents a creative bridge connecting musical heritage with modern soundscapes, while Salman Ali described the debut as a career milestone and a tribute to the enduring influence of the Sajid–Wajid legacy.
For more than three decades, Sajid–Wajid shaped Bollywood’s musical identity with chart-topping songs and romantic soundtracks. With the launch of WASAKA, the celebrated musical lineage aims to expand its global footprint while introducing a new generation of audiences to its signature sound and artistic philosophy.
