Nobel Peace Laureates, Global Leaders Launch ‘I Am Peacekeeper’ Movement in Dubai

Dubai, UAE – Dubai reinforced its standing as a hub for dialogue and fraternity on Thursday with the launch of the ‘I Am Peacekeeper Movement’, a global initiative aimed at fostering compassion, equity and unity.

The event, led by Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Founder of the movement and Executive Director of the Wockhardt healthcare conglomerate, brought together ten chief guests, including two Nobel Peace Laureates. Among those in attendance were Professor Mohan Munasinghe, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Blue Planet Prize recipient; Ouided Bouchamaoui, 2015 Nobel Peace Laureate; Dr Asle Toje, Vice Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and Dr Khalid Ghanem Al Ghaith, Secretary-General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF), Abu Dhabi.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Khorakiwala stressed that peace must be treated as a collective commitment rather than an abstract ideal.

“Peace is not a distant dream but a shared responsibility that belongs to all of us. Dubai offers the perfect platform to launch this journey – a crossroads of cultures and ideas where dialogue translates into action,” he said.

The movement has outlined 12 key initiatives, including engaging two million global online advocates, launching the upcoming ‘Billionaires for Peace Conclave’ in February 2026, and expanding global networks of directors and influencers.

Dr Khorakiwala also paid tribute to the UAE leadership, noting that the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has created an unparalleled foundation for tolerance and coexistence.

Professor Munasinghe, who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former US Vice-President Al Gore, underlined the movement’s focus on fairness and sustainability.

“Peace-building is not just about ending conflicts, but about creating fair opportunities for all. Economic justice, environmental care and social inclusion are pillars of lasting stability,” he said.

Echoing this, Dr Al Ghaith reaffirmed the UAE’s support for platforms that strengthen harmony.

“The ‘I Am Peacekeeper Movement’ embodies the values of understanding and fraternity. Hosting this in the UAE reflects our nation’s dedication to dialogue and harmony,” he noted.

The launch follows April’s record-breaking peace summit in Dubai, which gathered 12 Nobel laureates at Expo City Dubai. Organisers said the new movement would serve as a catalyst for sustained collaboration, leading up to next year’s landmark Billionaires for Peace Conclave.
