Peru’s social landscape has been shaped by a long and complex history that blends indigenous civilizations with colonial influences, resulting in rich cultural diversity alongside persistent structural challenges. Although the country maintains a democratic system, it continues to face issues such as economic inequality, youth unemployment, and regional disparities. These ongoing challenges have contributed to growing social fatigue and uncertainty among younger generations, underscoring the need for youth-centered dialogue and strengthened international cooperation.

The program introduced IPYG’s peace vision alongside the peace framework promoted by HWPL, an affiliated global peace non-governmental organization. Particular emphasis was placed on HWPL’s advocacy surrounding the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), which promotes sustainable peace through education, dialogue, and international collaboration. Following the presentation, participants engaged in an open discussion under the theme “The Peace I Dream of for Peru,” where they exchanged perspectives on social tensions and examined the role of youth organizations in addressing these challenges. The dialogue focused on feasible actions and educational linkages rather than abstract or theoretical viewpoints.

Yadirha Jhuliana Chávez Caja, a member of Voluntario, emphasized that peace is a fundamental prerequisite for human well-being and social coexistence. Reflecting on the session held on January 10, 2026, she noted that the discussion revealed a strong sense of shared awareness and a collective willingness among participants to work toward peace as a common goal.

Daniela Sofía Inchicaque, a member of the Student Council at the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary School, described the meeting as a timely opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of peace within Peruvian society. She observed that the discussions highlighted the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect, while reinforcing the idea that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but is deeply connected to justice, inclusion, and social solidarity.

Building on the outcomes of this event, IPYG plans to explore follow-up initiatives with Peruvian youth groups, including youth peace education programs (YEPC), collaborative project development, and expanded participation in global youth networks. Through these continued efforts, IPYG seeks to establish a sustainable, youth-driven peace framework that connects local communities in Peru with the broader international peace movement.
