GDRFA Dubai marks World Mental Health Day with awareness drive

Dubai: The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai marked World Mental Health Day on Friday with a workplace wellness initiative aimed at breaking social stigma and highlighting the importance of psychological well-being.

The event, held at GDRFA’s headquarters, featured an awareness exhibition and interactive workshops focused on mental health in the workplace. Staff took part in sessions designed to encourage balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being.

The initiative was attended by senior officials including Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai; Dr Alawi Sheikh Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA); and Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of GDRFA Dubai, alongside assistant directors general and other representatives.

Key partners such as Zayed University and the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology participated in the exhibition, providing information booths, artistic activities, and wellness-focused interactions.

Lt Gen Al Marri said mental health was an integral part of Dubai’s institutional framework. “Investing in mental health is no less important than developing skills and capabilities,” he said. “A balanced, positive mindset is the foundation for productivity and workplace happiness, in line with the vision of our leadership.”

Dr Sheikh Ali said DHA is committed to strengthening psychological well-being across the emirate in line with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which seeks to position Dubai as one of the world’s most livable cities.
“The Authority dedicates its efforts to promoting healthy lifestyles and psychological stability for all,” he said, praising GDRFA’s role in raising awareness and supporting community health initiatives.

The event highlighted Dubai’s broader push towards fostering supportive work environments that prioritize employee welfare and sustainable productivity.
