Residents Explore Next-Gen Air Taxis on Display Near Dubai Mall
Dubai Air Taxis are creating excitement across the UAE as residents and visitors get a rare chance to view futuristic electric air taxis up close near Dubai Mall, highlighting Dubai’s push toward smart and sustainable urban mobility.
Dubai’s streets recently offered a glimpse into the future of urban transport as residents and visitors were treated to a rare opportunity to see the next generation of flying taxis up close near Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai.
For a limited time — running through February 5, 2026 — an all-electric aerial taxi developed by US-based Joby Aviation has been on public display by the Fountain Boulevard, drawing crowds eager to take photos, ask questions, and explore what might soon become a common sight in the city’s skies.

A Sneak Peek at Urban Air Mobility
The aircraft on display is a type of eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) — a cutting-edge aerial vehicle designed to lift off and land like a helicopter, then transition to fast, efficient flight like an airplane. Those who visited could walk right up to the machine, snap photos, and speak with Joby staff to learn how it operates and what its role will be in Dubai’s transportation network.
According to representatives from Joby, the aircraft uses multiple electric propellers that tilt between vertical and horizontal positions, allowing the vehicle to take off in tight urban spaces before cruising above traffic. The design also dramatically reduces noise — so much so that at normal flight altitude of around 1,000 feet, the aircraft would be almost silent to those on the ground.
From Showcase to Daily Transport
This public display is part of a broader outreach effort by Joby and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to familiarise people with air taxi technology ahead of its planned commercial introduction later in 2026. Initial operations will see test and pilot-only flights, with limited passenger services before a full public rollout.
The city has mapped out a network of vertiports — specialised take-off and landing pads for eVTOLs — that will link major hubs such as Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, and Downtown Dubai. Once operational, these air taxis are expected to slash travel times dramatically. For example, a trip from the airport to Palm Jumeirah could take around 10–12 minutes, compared with roughly 45–60 minutes by car.
Why It Matters
Dubai’s leadership has been positioning the emirate as a global hub for future mobility solutions. The introduction of air taxis isn’t just about novelty — it’s part of a strategic effort to ease road congestion, reduce travel times, and offer cleaner, emission-free alternatives to traditional transport.
By bringing residents face-to-face with the aircraft now — rather than waiting until its official launch — authorities hope to build excitement and familiarity with a mode of transport that could soon be as routine as hailing a taxi or ride-share today.
