Dubai to Install 1,000 Smart Cameras to Monitor Parking Across the City
DUBAI 04-03-2026 : Dubai is taking another major step toward becoming a smarter and more efficient city with the announcement that around 1,000 smart parking cameras will be installed across the emirate. The initiative is being implemented by Parkin, the city’s exclusive public parking operator, as part of its strategy to modernize parking infrastructure and improve urban mobility.
The new system will use advanced technology to monitor parking availability, detect violations, and provide real-time information about parking spaces, helping reduce congestion and improve traffic management in busy areas.
According to a report by
Khaleej Times, the smart cameras will help authorities detect parking violations automatically and monitor parking occupancy in real time.

Smart Cameras to Improve Parking Management
According to Parkin’s leadership, the project is part of the first phase of a broader smart infrastructure strategy aimed at enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency. Around 1,000 solar-powered smart cameras will be deployed across key on-street parking locations throughout Dubai.
These cameras will provide live video and image feeds, allowing authorities to monitor parking utilization in real time. The data will be transmitted to Parkin’s smart inspection operations room, enabling officials to manage parking zones more effectively and enforce regulations quickly.
Officials say that efficient parking systems are an essential part of urban infrastructure because they help reduce traffic congestion and make city transportation smoother.
Strategic Locations and Event Areas
The cameras will be installed in high-traffic zones and major event locations, including areas around the Dubai World Trade Centre. These areas often experience large crowds during international conferences, exhibitions, and mega events.
During such events, the cameras will help authorities monitor parking availability and guide drivers to open spaces before they enter busy zones. This system will significantly reduce the time drivers spend searching for parking, which is a common cause of congestion around major venues.
How the Smart Parking Camera System Works
The technology behind the new system relies on advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and computer-vision tools. These high-resolution cameras capture images of vehicles and read license plates automatically using specialized software.
Key features of the system include:
- Real-time monitoring of parking spaces
- Automatic detection of parking violations or overstays
- Live video and image feeds sent to a central control room
- Data integration with digital parking platforms and apps
Some smart cameras can monitor up to 50 parking spaces at once, making the system highly efficient for large parking zones.
Drivers will also benefit because the system can notify them about available parking spaces before they reach crowded areas.
Supporting Electric Vehicles and Future Mobility
The smart camera rollout is part of a larger plan by Parkin to support future mobility solutions in Dubai. Alongside the camera deployment, the company plans to install around 200 electric-vehicle (EV) chargers in on-street parking areas by the end of 2026.
Parkin has already secured approvals for dozens of charging stations and has partnered with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to install many of them across the city. This expansion will support the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Dubai.
Preparing for Autonomous and Advanced Mobility
Dubai is also preparing for the future of transportation, including self-driving vehicles and advanced air mobility solutions. Authorities are working with mobility operators to create designated parking zones for autonomous vehicles, ensuring safe integration into the city’s transport network.
These initiatives align with Dubai’s broader smart-city vision and long-term mobility strategies, which aim to create a seamless transportation ecosystem connecting public transport, private vehicles, and emerging technologies.
A Step Toward a Smarter Dubai
The deployment of 1,000 smart parking cameras represents an important milestone in Dubai’s transformation into a technology-driven city. By combining artificial intelligence, real-time monitoring, and digital infrastructure, the system will make parking easier for drivers while helping authorities manage traffic more efficiently.
As Dubai continues to invest in smart mobility solutions—from EV charging networks to autonomous vehicles—the city is reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most advanced urban innovation hubs.
