Veteran actor Nana Patekar dies at 75 in Goa

GOA, India: Veteran actor Nana Patekar, a prominent figure in Hindi and Marathi cinema whose career stretched back to 1978, died in Goa early Thursday. He was 75. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed his death to the media. 

Patekar suffered severe chest pain at his flat, after which a medical team was called to the residence. The actor was found unresponsive.

According to information shared by Malhar and quoted by India Today, doctors attempted to revive Patekar before he was taken to Manipal Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5.20am. ANI reported that efforts to resuscitate him included 45 minutes of continuous CPR.

The death has been registered as a medico-legal case. A post-mortem examination was expected on Thursday to determine the exact circumstances of his death.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, he began his film career with Gaman in 1978, going on to establish a long career across Hindi and Marathi cinema.
